Mariana Clara (Aguiar) Sousa, 84 ,of Attleboro, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. She was the wife of the late Alberto Inacio Sousa who passed away on December 20, 2011, and to whom she was married on June 14, 1953. Born in Saint Michael, Portugal on August 12, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Manuel and Mariana (Aguiar) Aguiar. Mariana was a devout Catholic and member of the former Holy Ghost Church in Attleboro, now St. Vincent de Paul. She was leader of the prayer group. Mrs. Sousa was known for her love of her family, especially her grandchildren. Her favorite pastimes included time spent cooking and knitting. Mariana is survived by her five children: Louis A. Sousa and his wife, Cheryl A. (Adams) Sousa of North Attleboro; Maryanne C. Adams and her husband, James L. Adams of Attleboro; Theresa M. Corliss and her husband, Robert J. Corliss of Foxboro; Antonio "Tony" F. Sousa and his wife, Yvette M. (Daniels) Sousa of Seekonk; Emily "Amy" C. Simkins and her husband, Timothy A. Simkins of Eastham; Five brothers and sisters: Joao Aguiar of Swansea; Mariana Marto of Tiverton, RI; Manuel Aguiar of Dartmouth; Margarida Brum of New Bedford; Theresa Dias of Bethlehem, PA; thirteen grandchildren: Joseph and Michael Hilario; Kerry Morris; Jessica Sousa; Joshua Adams; Danielle Adams; Patrick Corliss; Brittany Corliss; Ryan, Eric, and Tyler Sousa; Stephanie Simkins, Kyle Simkins; and seven great-grandchildren. She also leaves several nieces, nephews , cousins and many dear friends. She was the mother of the late Anna M. Hilario and the sister of the late Maria Olivera, Jose Aguiar and Antonio Aguiar. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Sunday, March 9, 2014 from 3:00-6:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right, mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.
