Maria E. (Aguiar) Fonseca, 93, of Madonna Manor, North Washington Street, North Attleboro, formerly of Keenan Road, North Attleboro; died on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at the Madonna Manor Nursing Home surrounded by three of her loving, devoted children. She had been a resident of Madonna Manor since December 2012. She joins her beloved husband, the late Joseph R. Fonseca, in eternal peace. Born in St. Miguel, the Azores, Portugal on May 7, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Cipriano and Antonia (Cordeiro) Aguiar. She was raised and educated in her native country and immigrated to Canada in 1958 later settling in the United States in 1960. Prior to moving to North Attleboro in 1996, Mrs. Fonseca was a longtime resident of Oaklawn Avenue, Attleboro. While residing in Attleboro, Mrs. Fonseca was a communicant of the former Holy Ghost Church and since moving to North Attleboro was a communicant of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church. In addition to being a dedicated homemaker to her family, Mrs. Fonseca was employed in the jewelry industry as an assembler and bench worker retiring in 1982 from Guyot Brothers in Attleboro. She enjoyed times spent crocheting and gardening amongst her flower gardens but mostly treasured the times spent creating lifelong memories for her family to cherish for a lifetime. Mrs. Fonseca leaves four children: Eleanor Higgins of Plainville; Maria Fonseca-Campbell of Attleboro; Marie Shaw of Venice, Florida and Edmund Fonseca of Attleboro; nine grandchildren; several great grandchildren; a sister: Dolinda Pacheco in Bermuda; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was the mother of the late Abel M. Fonesca who died in 2004; the grandmother of the late Joseph E. Fitton, Jr. who died in 2011 and was the sister of the late Marie Isabel Carvallo, Joseph Aguiar and Cipriano Aguiar. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Thursday morning, August 29, 2013 from 8:30 - 9:30 AM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right, mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 14 Park Street, North Attleboro with the Rev. David A. Costa, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, West Street, Attleboro. Please omit flowers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mrs. Fonseca's name may be made to the Joseph E. Fitton, Jr. Memorial Fund, 485 Mendon Road, Attleboro, MA 02703.
