Margaret Ellen ?Peggy? (Colburn) Hartmann, 65, of Peabody Court, North Reading, a native of Reading; died following an eight week illness on Tuesday, December 26, 2006 surrounded by the love of her family at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading. She was the wife of the late Ret. Andrew William ?Bill? Hartmann, North Reading Fire Department, who died on March 1, 1988. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 16, 1941, she was a daughter of the late Harold Chester and Myrtle (Smith) Colburn. She was raised and educated in Reading where she was a graduate of Reading High School and later Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston. She later moved to North Reading where she resided for most of her life. In her youth she and her family summered at the family cottage located in Hancock, New Hampshire. Mrs. Hartmann was employed by several companies as an administrative assistant and was last employed by the Digital Corporation. until her retirement in 1988. Her favorite pastimes included walking and she was a participant in the American Cancer Society?s ?Relay for Life? and enjoyed going shopping with family and friends. However, her greatest love was the time spent with her beloved grandchildren creating memories that they will cherish for their lifetime. She leaves three children: Robert S. Brooks, Jr. of Wilmington, Massachusetts; Lara Murphy of Londonderry, New Hampshire and Chester A. Hartmann of Tewksbury, Massachusetts; a stepson: Paul T. Hartmann of Lynn, Massachusetts; six beloved grandchildren: Timothy W. Foley and Joseph R. Foley both of Wilmington, Massachusetts; Nichole M. Brooks of Wakefield, Massachusetts; Ashley M. Foley of Londonderry, New Hampshire; Tess E. Brooks of Wakefield, Massachusetts and Emily A. Murphy of Londonderry, New Hampshire and two brothers: Mark Colburn in Indiana and Malcolm Colburn of Freeport, Maine. She was the beloved mother of the late Robin Marie Brooks who died in 1988 and was the cherished maternal grandmother of the late Richard Derek Post who died in 1994. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Friday, December 29, 2006 from 5:00 ? 8:00 PM at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading.
