Mae Elizabeth (Jakubajtis) Grant, 85, of North Attleboro, passed away unexpectedly a year ago on Saturday, April 27, 2013. She was the wife of the late Malcolm K. Grant and the mother of her beloved late son Gregory Paul Grant. She was born on May 4, 1927 in North Attleboro, the daughter of the late Fabian and Stephanie (Bernatowicz) Jakubajtis. Mae was employed as a box maker at McGill Box Company in Plainville for 30 years. She was a member of the Plainville United Methodist Church, and enjoyed many years working at the Christmas church fair food table with her wonderful friend Ruthie O'Neill. Her raisin cookies and tomato soup cake were always a hit. Mae also enjoyed doing volunteer work in the arts and crafts program at Sturdy Memorial Hospital for a number of years. She is survived by her loving daughter Geraldine Fortney and her companion Dennis Pezzolesi of Niantic, CT; grandson Christopher Grant, his wife Tina and her daughter Brittany, of Greenville, SC; her grandson Troy Grant, also of Greenville, SC; and her daughter-in-law Christine. Mae leaves behind many nephews and nieces, and grandnephews and grandnieces. Her family and friends have truly missed her this past year. Mae was predeceased by her brother Louie and her sister Dorothy, and her step-sisters Fran, Lil, Red, and Stella. Mae loved spending time at her daughter's home in the quaint beach town of Niantic, CT. They had fun times walking along the beach or just sitting on a park bench watching and listening to the ocean. A commemorative bench will be placed in her memory on the Niantic Bay Overlook. She especially looked forward to the annual July 4th lobster fest and art show. Mae's wishes were that her ashes be scattered at sea. To honor her wishes, a private memorial service will be held on a friend's boat, the Mystic Blue, at the end of May. Her ashes will then be taken out into Long Island Sound where her daughter and grandsons will scatter them. Mae's husband, Malcolm served in WWII in Germany, Greg retired from 20 years of service in the Air Force, Christopher was in the Marine Corps, and Troy served in the Army in Iraq and Afghanistan. Due to their service to this country, the family requests donations be made to the worthwhile Wounded Warrior Project, P. O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675. The Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, has been assisting the family with arrangements.
