Madeline Camara Proulx

Madeline Camara (Esmeraldo) Proulx, 71, of Attleboro, passed away on Friday, November 11, 2016 surrounded by her family at her home. She was the much beloved wife of Gerard R. Proulx, Sr., to whom she was married on August 7, 1965 in St. John the Evangelist Church in Attleboro, MA. Born on May 9, 1945 in Madeira Island, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late John Esmeraldo and the late Mary Simmons. She was a graduate of Attleboro High School, Class of 1964 and attended the Tabbert-Hubbard Business School of Rhode Island.  She worked for thirty-seven years as an Executive Secretary for LeachGardner in Attleboro, before retiring. Madeline arrived in Attleboro from Portugal at the age of nine years, and resided there ever since.  She was an active and caring member of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Attleboro for many years.  She was a proud member of the National Honor Society who was an avid reader, loved tending to her flower garden, and enjoyed the faithful companionship of her late dog, "Jasper". She was a skilled and practiced knitter. More than anything, though, Madeline deeply loved her family. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her cherished children:  Gerard R. Proulx, Jr. and Joan P. Proulx; and James E. Proulx and his wife, Kricket A. Proulx, all of Attleboro, MA. She was the treasured and adoring grandmother of Nicholas Proulx and Hannah R. Proulx of Attleboro, MA.  Madeline is survived by her four sisters: Celina (Esmeraldo) Coelho of Fall River, MA; Virginia (Esmeraldo) Richmond and her husband, Gordon Richmond, of Norton, MA; Albina "Rita" (Esmeraldo) Maynard and her husband, Douglas Maynard, of Attleboro, MA; and Patricia (Esmeraldo) Phinney of Attleboro. She leaves many nieces and nephews and dear friends. Madeline was the sister of the late Constance (Esmeraldo) Bombadier, Cecilia (Esmeraldo) Pimental, Manuel Esmeraldo, and John Esmeraldo. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend a Visitation on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, ¾ mile on the left) Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 71 Linden Street, Attleboro, MA. Burial will be private. Those in need of a local ride to the visitation may call the funeral home at (508) 695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such complimentary transportation.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Madeline's name to Community VNA, 10 Emory Street, Attleboro, MA 02703, or to a charity of one's choice.
