Madeline F. (McEvoy) McSweeney, 93, of Hitchcock Lane, Attleboro; formerly of Commonwealth Avenue, Attleboro; died on Friday, January 20, 2012 at her residence surrounded by her loving and devoted family following a brief illness. She was the dedicated wife of the late James F. McSweeney to whom she was married on September 15, 1940 and who died on March 26, 2005. Born in the South Boston neighborhood on December 8, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Dora (Brennan) McEvoy. She was raised and educated in South Boston where she resided until moving to Dorchester, Norwood, North Attleboro and lastly to Attleboro in 2001. While residing in North Attleboro, Mrs. McSweeney was a communicant of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church. She loved the time spent in spiritual reflection at the National Shrine of Our Lady of LaSalette in Attleboro. She was a tireless homemaker who constantly dedicated herself to her family. After her children grew, she was employed for ten years for the Dover-Sherburne Regional School District. Her favorite pastimes included camping; trips to Foxwoods Resort and Casino; the time spent shopping and traveling, especially to California, Alaska, Puerto Rico and taking cruises with her husband. Holidays and special occasions surrounded by food and baked goods spent in the company of family and friends were closest to her heart. She leaves five children: Roy J. McSweeney, Sr. and his wife, Christine (OShea) McSweeney, of Tucson, Arizona; James F. McSweeney, husband of the late Elizabeth (Tomei) McSweeney, of Manchester, New Hampshire; Elaine M. Taylor and her husband, Arthur Art Taylor, with whom she resided in Attleboro; Patrick J. McSweeney II of North Attleboro; Susan T. Fullerton and her husband, Edward Fullerton, of Attleboro; a son-in-law: James McKinnon, husband of the late Nancy J. McKinnon who died on October 10, 2009, of Attleboro; 16 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a sister: Corrine Marino of Attleboro and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Rita Toner-Munn who died in 1981 and was the grandmother of the late William Toner and the late Roy J. Chip McSweeney, Jr. Mrs. McSweeney was the sister of the late Bernice Hendrickson, Doris McEvoy, Phyllis McGillivray and Joseph McEvoy. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation and celebrate her life on Friday, January 27, 2012 from 3:00 4:00 PM in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson House, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. A Time of Remembrance and Reflection will immediately follow visitation on Friday, January 27, 2012 at 4:00 PM in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home with the Rev. Glenn Rounseville, Chaplain at Sturdy Memorial Hospital, officiating. Burial will be private in North Purchase Cemetery, North Main Street Route 152, Attleboro. Please do not send flowers.
