M. Theresa Ferreira

M. Theresa (Varney) Ferreira, 91, of Warwick, RI, passed away after a long journey with Alzheimer's Disease on Thursday, March 27, 2014 surrounded by her family at the home of her son, James. She was the wife of the late Manuel Ferreira, Jr., who passed away on April 13, 1992, they married on May 29, 1941 and enjoyed nearly 51 years of marriage. Born in Cambridge, MA on September 13, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Howard M. and Anita (Melanson) Varney. Mrs. Ferreira graduated from Norton High School, Class of 1940. As well as, being a homemaker, Theresa worked at several establishments including Metals and Control, Spencer Thermostats, Swank, Shields and Motorola. She retired in 1990 to care for her husband Manny until his death in 1992. She volunteered over 20,000 hours at Sturdy Memorial Hospital until Alzheimer's Disease forced her to resign. Among her favorite pastimes were knitting, crocheting, sewing and puzzles. Theresa was also an avid reader. She prided herself in keeping in touch with family and friends and will always be remembered for organizing the Ferreira family reunions. Mrs. Ferreira is survived by her two children: John A. Ferreira and his wife, Josephine of Newport News, VA and James A. Ferreira and his wife, Susan L. of Warwick, RI; three sisters: Rita Parlier of Little Rock, AR; Anita Christiansen of Hudson, Florida and Edna Doucette of Chicopee, MA. She also leaves five grandchildren,and many great-grandchildren. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, godchildren and dear friends. She also leaves her close friend Theo Sousa with whom she shared many adventures. The family would also like to express their special thanks to Tami LaRouche, CNA and Candi Foisy, RN from Gentiva Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right, mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Children's room is available during the visitation. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend Funeral Services on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at 10:00 AM in St. Vincent de Paul Parish (former Holy Ghost Church), Linden Street, Attleboro, MA with Father Philip Davignon, officiating.
