Lucille Rose (Cote) Baumgartel, 98, of Concord, MA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at Emerson Hospital in Concord. She was the beloved wife of the late Earl Baumgartel. Born on March 21, 1920 in Attleboro, MA, she was the daughter of the late Rosario L. Cote and the late Emma M. (Audette) Cote. A graduate of Presentation of Mary Academy in Hudson, NH, she worked for many years as a Secretary and Bookkeeper in the office of the City of Attleboro Superintendent of Schools before her retirement in 1984. A resident of Concord since 1997, she previously lived in Carlisle, MA from 1984 until 1997. Lucille was a former member of St. Joseph's and St. John's Roman Catholic churches in Attleboro and St. Irene's parish in Carlisle, MA. Even though she had many interests, Lucille lived to golf, a sport she played until the age of 95 at Fresh Pond Golf Club in Cambridge, MA and Pine Meadows Golf Club in Lexington, MA. She enjoyed bowling, and was an avid reader who loved spending time in the comforts of the library. Throughout her life, Lucille enjoyed knitting, having first learned to knit by making sweaters for our country's servicemen in the Navy during World War II. She later knitted countless sweaters and hats for children, which she often donated to church fairs. Lucille loved the challenge of completing the New York Times crossword puzzles in ink, and always enjoyed visits to Cape Cod. She was an ardent fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. More than anything, Lucille cherished her role in raising her family and in spending time with them. She was the loving mother of Peter Earl Baumgartel of Charlestown, RI, and his late wife, Lucia G. (Virgadamo) Baumgartel; Colonel Gary Paul Baumgartel and his wife, Suzanne Baumgartel, of San Antonio, TX; and Judy Baumgartel Jakobsche and her husband, George Jakobsche of Concord, MA. She was the adoring grandmother of Charles Jakobsche, Melissa Jakobsche, Todd Baumgartel, Michael Baumgartel, and Kathryn Baumgartel; and the great-grandmother of Cayden Baumgartel. She was the sister-in-law of Louise W. (Johnson) Baumgartel. Friends and family are cordially invited to honor and remember Lucille by gathering for a Visitation on Thursday, September 27, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA, immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. at Dyer-Lake Funeral Home.
