Lorraine Dorothy (McCready) D'Ambrosio, 88, of Clifton Street, Attleboro; formerly of West Street, Attleboro died on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Joseph John D'Ambrosio. Born in the Brooklyn borough of New York City on September 16, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Elmo and Agnes (Lund) McCready. She was a graduate of the Bay Ridge Academy for Young Women in Brooklyn. Mrs. D'Ambrosio was a veteran of the United States Navy after having enlisted at the age of 18 the day following the Pearl Harbor attacks. She served proudly from September 1942 until the spring of 1945 and had served with the medic corps in Bethesda, Maryland. She started her career as a statistician on Wall Street in New York and became the first woman senior vice president on Wall Street at Drexel, Burnham & Lambert. She worked in financial services for many years prior to her retirement in 1990. Following her retirement she moved to Attleboro and remained a resident since that time in 1992. She was a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. Her family will remember with love her drive, determination that led to her many successes and accomplishments. She leaves three children: Eileen Gallagher and her husband, James Gallagher, of Brooklyn, New York; Kathleen Benson and her husband, Rolf Benson, with whom she resided in Attleboro; Joseph J. D'Ambrosio and his wife, Marty Taylor, of Bronxville, New York; ten grandchildren: John Gallagher, Judy Shanahan and her husband, Nolan Shanahan, Kristina Benson, Jack, Nick, Meg, Sam, Ned and Hannah Taylor-D'Ambrosio; two great grandchildren: Abigail and Fiona Shanahan and her "adopted" relatives: Bruce and Kim Hagerman and several extended family members and friends. She was the maternal grandmother of the late Jimmy Gallagher. She was the sister of the late Helen McCready. Visitation respectfully omitted. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Celebration of Her Life Funeral Service on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 841 North Main Street - Route 152, Attleboro, with the Rev. Douglas J. Bixby, Senior Pastor, officiating. Graveside services will follow in North Purchase Cemetery, Attleboro. Family and friends will be cordially invited to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshment following graveside services at a location to be announced.
