Loretta V. (Cardinal) Vaslet, 98, of Thurber Avenue, Attleboro, died on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at the Golden Living Center - Garden Place, Attleboro where she had been a resident for the past year. She was the wife of the late Howard Earl Vaslet to whom she was married during a hurricane on September 17, 1938 and who entered into eternal rest on September 10, 1991. Born in Moosup, Connecticut on September 26, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Alexander Joseph Cardinal, Sr. and Florence Louise (Nelson) Cardinal. She resided in Connecticut until settling in Pawtucket, Rhode Island in 1928. She graduated from the former Pawtucket High School in 1930 at the age of 15. Mrs. Vaslet continued to reside in Pawtucket, Rhode Island until moving to Attleboro in 1941. She remained an Attleboro resident for the past 70 years. She was employed at various jewelry companies, Hillsinger in Plainville, the Hayward Company and lastly by the City of Attleboro as an employee in the school cafeteria. A woman of strong religious convictions, Mrs. Vaslet was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Seekonk for many years and was a member of the church prayer group that met on Thursday evenings. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting and as an ardent knitter made more than 500 hats for local children despite being legally blind. Mrs. Vaslet was a longtime volunteer for Sturdy Memorial Hospital, Attleboro. She leaves three children: Jean L. Barker and her husband, Gerald Barker, of Ft. Myers, Florida; Ted R. Vaslet and his wife, Jane Vaslet, of Lockport, New York and Lorraine C. Keniston, wife of the late William Kenniston, of Seekonk; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and several extended family members. She was the sister of the late Alexander J. Cardinal, Jr., Edwina R. Gallant and Dorothea M. Jacques. Thomas Rita, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Attleboro. Following cemetery services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced.
