Lois Susan (Blum) Reitzas

June 30, 1939 — June 1, 2023

Lois Susan (Blum) Reitzas, 83, of Fall River, MA, beloved and cherished wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at her home. She was the loving and beloved wife of the late Gary Reitzas, who died on December 16, 2016.
Born on June 30, 1939, in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late Ira Blum, DDS, and Janet (Deutsch) Blum.
Always an advocate of education and of lifelong learning, she was a graduate of Classical High School in Providence and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Skidmore College, Class of 1960. Lois continued her education, having received her Master's degree in library science from the University of Rhode Island, and after her children were grown, she attended Boston College School of Law, from which she received her Juris Doctor degree.
Her life was marked by love, compassion, and a deep sense of dedication to her family. As a mother and grandmother, she was a source of unwavering inspiration and guidance.  Her role as "Grammy" brought immeasurable joy to her life: not one day went by that she didn't light-up at the mention of one of her grandchildren, all of whom adored her and embraced her presence in their lives.
Lois' life was filled with what seemed like an endless variety of interests and passions. She had a love and talent for knitting, with a skein of yarn always nearby. Like clockwork, you could find her almost every Sunday with a completed New York Times crossword puzzle and she looked forward to frequently attending national crossword puzzle competitions.
She was passionate about reading and delighted in sitting outside in her lawn chair or at the beach on a sunny day with book in hand, traveling at times to the Miami Book Fair, and her love of words, facts, and general knowledge landed her as a contestant on Jeopardy! years ago.
She loved to travel: together with Gary, with their family, and later generational-hosteling with her grandchildren: white water rafting, spelunking, and exploring Alaska among adventures. And, when she decided to learn Spanish to better enable her to speak with some of her clients, she packed her bags and flew off to Guatemala where she lived with a family so as to immerse herself in the language.
Her legacy of learning, living life fully, and humor will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Lois is survived by her cherished children: Lori Elias and her husband, Jay Elias, of Warwick Neck, RI; Lisa Pildner and her husband, Henry Pildner III, of Needham, MA; David Reitzas and his wife, Aya Reitzas, of Bell Canyon, CA; and Daniel Reitzas and his wife, Lisa Reitzas, of Fall River, MA. She was the adoring grandmother of Thomas and his fiancée, Stephanie Rieger, Robert and his wife, Gloria, Hope, and Emma Elias; Alison Pildner Cohen and her husband, David, and Amy Pildner; Franklin and Benny Reitzas; and Noah, Sam, and Hannah Reitzas. She leaves her beloved brother, Max Blum, and his wife, Diane Axelrod, and her dear brother-in-law, James G.S. Reitzas. Lois leaves her extended family and many dear friends.
Friends and family are cordially invited to attend a Graveside Service for Lois on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Rabbi Ethan Adler at Lincoln Park Cemetery, 1469 Post Rd, Warwick, RI 02888.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Lois to a charity of one's choice.
