Lloyd John Daniel Nelson

Lloyd John Daniel Nelson, 94, of Park Street, Attleboro, formerly of Mount Hope Street, North Attleboro, died on Monday evening, March 4, 2013 at the Life Care Center of Attleboro where he had been a resident for the past year. He was the beloved husband of the late Bertha A. (Larson) Nelson. Born on July 14, 1918, in the family homestead on Mount Hope Street, North Attleboro, the home would remain his residence for the next 92 years of his life. He was the son of the late Albin and Alfreda (Nyberg) Nelson. As the only son born of four children to his parents, Mr. Nelson began his career on the family farm and later became a finish carpenter for Swanson Construction Company in Attleboro for many years prior to his retirement from fulltime work at the age of 65. Mr. Nelson soon returned to work and was employed at Shaw's Supermarket at the Triboro Plaza in the Attleboro Falls section of North Attleboro until the age of 92. He was an active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church, Attleboro. His favorite pastimes included those spent hunting, fishing and gardening with a particular passion for cultivating zucchini, tomatoes and beans. He was a devoted Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. Mr. Nelson will be lovingly remembered for the phrase, "that's the way it goes", that he often used during a conversation. He leaves two sons: Jeffrey J. Nelson, Sr. of Brewster and Kris L. Nelson and his wife, Wendy K. (Kingman) Nelson, of Dennis; five grandchildren: Jennifer Nelson of Eastham; Robert Nelson of Boston; Jeffrey T. Nelson, Jr. of Yarmouth; Casey J. Nelson of Warwick, Rhode Island and Courtney M. Nelson of Warwick, Rhode Island and a great grandchild: Dylan Nelson of Warwick, Rhode Island and several extended family members and friends. He was the brother of the late Dorothy "Dottie" Kling, Mildred "Millie" Johnson and Edith Bensson. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Friday, March 8, 2013 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro Those in need of a ride to visitation may call the funeral home at (508) 695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such gratis transportation. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Funeral Service Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 841 North Main Street - Route 152, Attleboro, with the Rev. Douglas J. Bixby, Senior Pastor, officiating. The burial will follow in North Purchase Cemetery, Attleboro for the immediate family only. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mr. Nelson's name may be made to either the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street - Centralized Memorial Processing Center, Framingham, MA 01701 or to the Resident Activities Fund of Life Care Center of Attleboro, 969 Park Street, Attleboro, MA 02703.
