Leonardo "Leo" Berganza

Leonardo "Leo" Berganza, 78, of Attleboro, MA, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 22, 2017 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI. He was the beloved husband of Alicia A. (Ipina) Berganza, to whom he was married on October 27, 1968.Born on January 1, 1939 in Jalapa, Guatemala, he was the son of the late Belizario and Simona (Catu) Berganza. Leo was a resident of Attleboro since 1983, and worked for many years in the Maintenance Department of the Attleboro High School before retiring. A member of Good News Bible Chapel in Attleboro, he enjoyed gardening and fishing in his younger years. More than anything, though, he loved spending time with his family and his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One of his proudest moments was when Leo became a United States citizen.In addition to his wife, Leo is survived by his loving children: Dennis L. Berganza and his partner, Dr. Benjamin Lightfoot, of Providence, RI; George D. Berganza and his wife, Marisol (Martinez) Berganza, of Attleboro, MA; Lisa J. (Berganza) Matos, and her husband, Victor M. Matos, Sr., of Attleboro, MA; and Beky J. (Berganza) Risotti and her husband, Paul D. Risotti, of Rehoboth, MA. He was the adoring grandfather of Carlos Corchado, Victor M. Matos, Jr., George Berganza, Jr., Alexander M. Matos, Natalie M. Berganza, Malakai D. Risotti, and Lucien C. Risotti; and great-grandfather of Adrian Corchado and Avery Corchado. Leo was one of thirteen children, and leaves numerous siblings, many nieces and nephews, his extended family near and far, and many dear friends.Family and friends are invited to honor and remember Leo by gathering for a Visitation on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA.
