Leonard M. Nicholson, 74, of Oakhill Avenue, Attleboro, died suddenly and unexpectedly at his residence on Sunday, May 5, 2013. He was the husband of the late Patricia A. (Chabira) Nicholson to whom he was married on April 15, 1957 at Forbes Air Force Base, Kansas and entered into eternal rest on November 30, 2007. Born in Natick, Massachusetts on January 21, 1939, he was a son of the late Malcolm and Laura K. (Martin) Nicholson. He was raised and graduated from Framingham High School. Mr. Nicholson entered the United States Air Force on January 24, 1956 and served proudly and admirably until his honorable discharge on January 26, 1958. He was employed for more than ten years prior to his retirement as a ring maker and solderer for Herff Jones in Rhode Island and was formerly a foreman at Leavens Manufacturing in Attleboro for more than 20 years. Having been raised in Framingham, Mr. Nicholson entered the United States Armed Services following high school and upon his discharge settled in the City of Attleboro where he has been a resident for more than the past 50 years. He was a proud veteran. Mr. Nicholson was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks - Lodge #1014, Attleboro and was a former member of the Attleboro Moose Lodge. Described as a "simple, outdoorsman", Mr. Nicholson was the self-proclaimed "World's Best Fisherman" and enjoyed fresh water, salt water and ice fishing. He enjoyed time spent at the Independent Sportsman's Club at the shooting range and was a general historian with a particular love for military history. Mr. Nicholson was a New England Patriots fan. He leaves three children: Cynthia Nicholson of New Bedford; Mark W. Nicholson of Attleboro and Lorna R. Marcoux and her husband, William W. Marcoux, of South Attleboro; four grandchildren: Justin Nicholson, Tina Ayre, Frank Nicholson and Delanie Marcoux; four great grandchildren: Hannah, Nicole, Avery and Dylan; a sister: Judith Nicholson of Natick and several extended family members and dear friends. He was the beloved father of the late David L. Nicholson who died in April 2011. Visitation with veteran's honors will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2013 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. The funeral service with veteran's honors will immediately follow visitation on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro with the Rev. Kelly Thibeault, Pastor of the First Congregational Church, Old Post Road, North Attleboro, officiating. Children's room available during visitation and the funeral service. Burial with military honors will follow in Oak Knoll Cemetery, Rehoboth. Following cemetery services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced.
