Leona Estelle LaVoie
July 24, 1944 - March 8, 2022
Leona "Lee" LaVoie passed quietly among family members at the Rhode Island Hospital, Stroke Unit, on March 8, 2022.
Mrs. LaVoie, 77 years old, was born in New Bedford, MA, the daughter of George J. Goulet and Cecile (Major) Goulet. Lee was a resident of Middleborough, MA and previously resided in Stoughton, Attleboro, Bridgewater, and Raynham, all in Massachusetts; also, formerly of Nashua, NH and Agoura Hills, CA.
Lee is survived by her husband of 58 years, Dennis R. LaVoie and her children; Darren R. LaVoie of Rehoboth, MA, Bryan S. LaVoie (deceased) of Las Vegas, NV, Jeffrey M. LaVoie of North Attleboro, MA, Danielle C. LaVoie of Whitman, MA, as well as her daughters-in-law; Kristine LaVoie of Lakeville, MA, Carinne LaVoie of North Attleboro, and Basia LaVoie of Warsaw, Poland. "Mema", as she was affectionately called by her grandchildren, Justin 22, Ashley 20, Bryce 21, Sydney 11, and Peyton 9, will be sadly missed as she contributed to all of their formative years and they in turn gave her joy, love and laughter.
Lee was the middle child of eight other siblings, including; Mrs. Rita Halle of Michigan, Mrs. Claire Rose of California, Mr. Gerard Goulet of New Bedford (deceased), Mrs. Jeanne Vermette of Florida, Mr. Robert Goulet of South Dartmouth (deceased), Mrs. Pauline St. Pierre of Westport, Mrs. Madeleine Baptiste of New Bedford, and Mr. Conrad Goulet of Florida.
For several years, Lee worked at BirthRight, where she made a warm impact on many lives and grew dear friendships. Later in life, she was employed as an Accountant with Andrade Construction and Sales Associate with BZ Cabinetry & Wholesale Carpeting, both in Raynham, MA. For many years she was a nanny to a number of children, whom she adored and spoke of often.
Lee's hobbies included making porcelain dolls, knitting comfort blankets for her grandchildren or sweaters and scarves for her family. She played Words With Friends daily (and was very good at it), where she made friends from around the world - for those that knew Lee, she would make friends out of strangers just about everywhere she went. She loved traveling to exotic locations with her husband. But most of all, being surrounded by her family and caring for her grandchildren brought her more happiness than anything else.
