In Loving Memory of my father, Lawrence Habershaw of Attleboro, MA (90)
(November 23, 1934 - March 11, 2025)
There are not enough words of gratitude for my father Lawrence Habershaw. He was an amazing human being and a person so full of life. I could never imagine the world without him in it.
Lawrence grew up one of 10 children on Robertson Avenue, South Attleboro. He grew up in poverty and developed a “hard work” ethic by the age of 8, maintaining several paper routes for many years, expected to contribute to his family’s finances. My mother often reminded us of his humble beginnings, sharing his attire at graduation, holey socks and a pair of pants that one of his older brother’s owned, who was 4 or more inches shorter than he was. (Many stories like this were told in our house not to belittle or complain, but to educate, inspire, and build compassion).
Lawrence served in the Army from 1954-1957. Encouraged by his wife (the late Eleanor G. Habershaw) and his uncle who knew that “education was a way out of poverty” Lawrence went on to educate himself at Northeastern University where he commuted and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. His accomplishment was fully financed by his own continuous strong work ethic (employed as a shoe salesman) and by my Mother's (at Richardson Cuddy Insurance Company).
Achieving this dream together, my parents (a team since the age of 14) went on to achieve many more dreams including adopting 2 children from different families, opening their own small home businesses, building several apartments, and more. Together with their hard work ethic, team mentality, and big visions they achieved the American Dream.
They leave a legacy with many people from their former business Patronix, Inc. (formerly in Attleboro, Massachusetts, sold in 2016) where they eagerly offered jobs to many friends, family, and lovely employees. My father inspired in me so many things I could never list them all, but among them are a strong appreciation of nature, poverty, education, and family. He gave me so many opportunities that he never had and continuously taught by example to make “lemonade out of lemons”. He is forever my hero and I miss him more than words can convey.
Lawrence leaves behind so many who were inspired by him including; his sister Joan Mooney, brother Frank Habershaw, Nieces and Nephews; Billy Hutchinson, Arlene Jubert, Leslie Cassidy, Laurie Leger (who entered my father’s life in 2023), Sharon Forsman, Susan Boland, Robert Ferrara, Lawrence Ferrara, Stephen Ferrara, and so many more. Most importantly and most proud of him, Lawrence leaves behind his two Children Kevin Habershaw and Karen Kraemer, Son in Law; Michael Kraemer, and his two favorite people, his Grandchildren; Jake Kraemer and Kyle Kraemer.
So much more I would like to say…My father will remain loved, appreciated, and remembered, forever!
