Laure Fares Mourad

May 10, 1931 — October 13, 2025

Lincoln

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Laure Fares (Mouawad) Mourad, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She departed this life peacefully on Monday, October 13th, 2025, at the age of 94, at the Cherry Hill Manor in Johnston, RI.

Laure was born on May 10th, 1931, in the picturesque town of Ayroun, Lebonon. She was the cherished daughter of the late Fares and Emilie (Chaiban) Mouawad.

In December of 1974, she came to visit her brother Fr. Paul Mouawad, who was the pastor of St. Sharbel Maronite Church in Portland, Oregon and her son Jack, who was at University. When the Civil War in Lebanon began a few months later, she was unable to return home so she and the kids settled to wait out a war that would not end. Known for her exquisite cuisine, kindness and enduring smile, she was not one to sit still. She started Cedar’s Deli, an international delicacy shop showcasing her homemade sweets and imported food from around the world.

In the late 1980’s, she moved to Rhode Island as family members began to settle there. She enjoyed being part of St George’s Maronite Church in Pawtucket, and of course to be with her brother, Fr. Paul, sister Therese and many nieces and nephews. Laure leaves a legacy of always wanting the best for people, encouraging them and making sure they are fed! She was a very selfless woman, who made sure everyone was taken care of before herself. Nobody liked giving kisses to kids more than her. More often than not, you would see a smile on her face, always welcoming, always hospitable.

Laure was united in marriage for many years with her late husband, George Mourad, with whom she shared a life rich with love and dedication. Together, they raised four loving sons: Dr. Jack Mourad, Charles Mourad, John Paul "JP" Mourad, and the late Rony Mourad, all of whom she adored deeply. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Joseph, Maria, Perla, Bernard, Ronnie, Ronald, Julian, Leyah, Rita, Jayden, and Livia, each of whom brought immense joy and pride to her life.

Laure was sister to a devoted family, survived by her brothers Joseph, George, and Rafic Mouawad. She is now reunited in eternal rest with her predeceased siblings Halim Mouawad, Therese Estephan, Nabih Mouawad, Mireille Abounajem, and Father Paul Mouawad.

Laure's kindness, wisdom, and gentle spirit touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her unwavering faith and generosity were constant throughout her life, and she will be remembered for the countless ways she extended her love and warmth to those around her.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects to Laure's beautiful life on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 10:00am to 11:00am at St. George Maronite Church, 1493 Cranston Street, Cranston followed by a funeral liturgy at 11:00am. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, East Providence, Rhode Island.
