Katherine Malkowski of North Attleboro passed away peacefully, with her mother, father, and sister by her side, on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, after a courageous nine-month battle with brain cancer.
Katie lived a full and meaningful life in her too-short 29 years. Friends and family were the most important part of her life, and she made sure each and every one of them knew how special and loved they were. Dozens of people visited her during her two weeks in hospice to remind her of the love they felt for her and the positive impact she had on their lives.
She was a kind and generous person who sensed when others were in need and made them feel included, valued, and loved. Her lifelong love of animals was evident in her rescuing three dogs over the past ten years: Charlie and Bubba, who have passed, and Popeye, who is now a cherished member of the family. Charlie, in particular, held a special place in Katie’s heart, having come into her life during a difficult time. They adored each other, and Katie memorialized him with more than one tattoo.
Her love of volleyball began in middle school and continued throughout her life. She participated in multiple leagues and was a regular at the informal Sunday summer volleyball games on Scarborough Beach in Narragansett. Two of her greatest joys after moving back to Massachusetts—following her years in Tampa during and after college—were volleyball and hunting for sea glass at Rocky Point Beach in Warwick. She turned her passion for sea glass into an art business called Silly Goofy Girly Shop. She crafted the sea glass into jewelry and created other works of art, which she sold at craft fairs and in two retail gift shops.
Funeral arrangements are private.
To honor her memory, donations to an animal shelter or a homeless shelter or a random act of kindness would have pleased her.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA.
