Julia Serena

Julia (Pereira) Serena, 98, of Chartley Brook Lane, Attleboro, died surrounded by the love of her family at the home she shared with her beloved grandson and his family in Attleboro on Thursday, October 10, 2013. She was the wife of the late Jose Gomes Serena who died in 1946. Born on Brava Island, Cape Verde, on March 8, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Joao Joaquim and Ermilinda (Pereira) daRosa. She immigrated to the United States many years ago and settled in New Jersey where she resided until moving to the Dorchester section of Boston where she lived for 32 years prior to moving to Attleboro in 2006. She was a dedicated and devoted homemaker to generations of her family. While residing in Boston, Mrs. Serena was a communicant of St. Kevin Roman Catholic Church. She was devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Her favorite pastime was cooking for family and friends and also enjoyed gardening, crocheting and collecting trinkets. She leaves a son: Humberto Serena of Port Orange, Florida; three grandchildren: Rolando Serena and his family with whom she made her home in Attleboro; Humberto Serena of Dorchester and Doris McClennan of Port Orange, Florida and 15 great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Mariazinha daRosa Serena and was predeceased by all of her siblings. Private visitation and funeral services in Portuguese will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right, mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery and Arboretum, Mount Hope Street, North Attleboro.
