Joyce Carolyn (Mooney Wharton) Hingley, 78, of Attleboro, MA passed away on February 27, 2025, at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, MA.
Born on December 7, 1946, at the family home on Larch Street in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, she was a daughter of the late Albert W. Hingley and the late Harriet "Lala" (LaDuke) Hingley.
The family moved to the City of Attleboro in 1950, and she remained a lifelong resident. She attended Attleboro public schools.
In earlier years, she went to work at her mom and dad's restaurant and general store on Park Street in Attleboro called the Out Post Grille.
After the restaurant closed, she began working at Bellavance Watch and returned to the restaurant business at the Red Rock Diner in North Attleboro, then five years at the Wrentham State School then on to Eddie and Myles.
She was the owner and operator of Joyce's Place in Attleboro and Just Joyce in North Attleboro. When her restaurants closed, she went to work at Mike's Truck Stop until it closed and on to Plainville Truck Stop then it became North Star Restaurant where she worked for 14 years prior to her retirement.
She leaves behind her "everything person" who did so much for her: Rocky Newton of Riverside, RI and his children: Steven Newton of Riverside, RI and Matthew Newton of West Warwick, RI; four generations of cousins; her stepdaughter: Ashley McArthur and her husband, James McArthur, Sr., and their children: Lily and James McArthur, Jr. all in Florida; her Godson: James Sarenti and extended family and friends.
She was the former wife of the late John M. Wharton.
All are welcome to attend visitation on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm in the "Memorial Chapel" of Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 11:00 am at Paine Cemetery, Paine Road, North Attleboro, MA. There will be no services at the funeral home prior and attendees are invited to go directly to the cemetery.
