Obituary

Joseph A. Smith Sr., 84 years old, of Attleboro, MA passed away on June 13, 2026.

Loving son of the late Arthur A. Smith, and the late Ruth vander Rhoer Smith Carrigan. Joe grew up and was raised in New Jersey, Texas and Louisiana. He was a great admirer of western heroes portrayed by the likes of Lash LaRue, John Wayne, and Clint Eastwood. He loved fishing, tinkering, meeting new people, going on road trips and listening to country music particularly Tammy Wynette, Crystal Gayle, Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton. Joe joined the Navy as a young man and was very proud of his service to the country. Upon leaving the Navy, Joe settled in New England and raised his family there. He was a long-time employee of Engelhard in Massachusetts.

Joe is survived by his children, Joseph Smith Jr. of Millville MA, Debra Costa of Brooksville, FL, and Sharon Rock of Homosassa FL; his siblings, John Smith of New Hampshire and Ruth McLain of Arizona, his half-siblings Ellen Carrigan, Edward Carrigan III, Erin C. Paul, Sean Carrigan Sr, Patricia Carrigan and Michael Carrigan of Louisiana; his significant other, Yvonne Webster and her two children Daniel Webster and Gayle Webster; 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren and was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Szidloski and step-father Edward Carrigan Jr.

Family and friends are warmly invited to attend Visitation on Monday June,29, from 4:00PM until 7:00PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday June 30, at 11:00AM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA, immediately followed by procession to Bourne National Cemetery where military honors will be held.
