IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph Ernest
Ford
May 8, 1934 – March 2, 2026
Joseph Ford passed away on March 2, 2026. A man known for his huge heart, dry wit and unwavering devotion to his family, his life was defined by the people he loved and the simple joys that brought everyone together.
He shared more than 47 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Maureen. They built a life centered around family, traditions, and creating memories for and with their children and the generations that came after.
Together they delighted in their annual trips to Aruba, singing and dancing together, day trips to the Cape, sampling new foods from all of the great restaurants, and gathering with friends and family by their backyard pool. The summer parties they hosted were loved by everyone who was ever invited.
As an avid golfer, Joe enjoyed many days on the course and valued the friendships and stories that came with the game. Joe was also very involved in the Larson Senior Center Group and could often be found on stage performing for an audience. He also loved tending to his garden, playing infinite rounds of horseshoes and croquet, filling his home with the sounds of classical music, hosting cookouts for his friends and family, where he would pour a round of 5pm gin & tonics and grill a round of appetizer hot dogs.
Whether he was cheering for the Red Sox, turning his and Maureen's backyard into an even more magical garden oasis, or gathering everyone for a cookout, Joe had a way of making every moment feel special.
He was the proud father of five children and three stepchildren: Cheryl Withers, Kim Taverna and her husband David, Karl Ford, Susan McHale and her late husband, Gary. He was predeceased by one son, Russell Ford and his wife, Deborah (Klegraefe) Ford. Stepfather of Karen O'Handley, the late Michael D. O'Handley, and the late Julie Donahue.
He was the brother of Patricia R. Mayers, and the late Ronald A. Ford.
"Grandpa Joe" was deeply loved by his 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. His family will forever cherish the wisdom, humor, and steadfast love he shared so effortlessly.
Joe will be remembered for his strength, dry sense of humor, and the way he made everyone feel welcome. His life was a beautiful example of what it looks like to love and be loved by your family. He tended to his relationships the same way he tended to his garden: with patience, with care, and with daily nurturing. Though he will be profoundly missed by many, the love he planted will continue to grow forever.
How fortunate we are to have known Joseph Ford and to carry forward the legacy he leaves behind.
