Joseph L. Cerreto, 101 ½, of Attleboro, MA, and formerly of North Attleboro, MA, passed away peacefully at the Pawtucket Falls Healthcare Center on Thursday, February 3, 2022. He was the husband of the late Blanche D. (Clairmont) Fontaine Cerreto to whom he was married for seven years prior to her passing on February 8, 2014. He was also the husband of the late Inez M. (Atwell) Cerreto whom he married on November 15, 1950, and who died on January 6, 2004, after more than 53 years of marriage.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island, on July 8, 1920, he was a son of the late Domenic Cerreto and the late Pauline (Costa) Cerreto.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served from January 2, 1942, until his honorable discharge on November 9, 1945, having achieved the rank of Private First Class. He was the recipient of the American Theatre Campaign Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Victory Medal.
He resided in North Attleboro from 1950 until moving to the Christopher Heights in Attleboro 14 years ago. He made numerous friends and acquaintances at Christopher Heights and will be remembered for his generous and kind heart.
While residing in North Attleboro, Mr. Cerreto was a communicant of Transfiguration of the Lord Parish - St. Mary.
He was employed as a designer for L. G Balfour Company in Attleboro, MA, for 46 years prior to his retirement. He was a talented artisan with many talents and loved sharing his artwork with others. Mr. Cerreto was a past member of the Foxboro Country Club, the Balfour Gold Dusters Club and the American Legion Post 20 in Attleboro.
In earlier years, he was an ardent bowler, avid golfer, and enjoyed woodworking projects around his home and spending time in his flower and vegetable gardens. He enjoyed spending his summer vacations in Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard.
He was the oldest of nine siblings and was the last remaining member, preceded in death by his brothers: Antonio, Dominic, and Luigi and his sisters: Theresa Mulligan, Mary Boutin, Elizabeth Courchesne, Pauline Sweet, and Anna Pearson. He leaves generations of nieces and nephews who are forever grateful for his love, support, guidance, and advice.
Visitation has respectfully been omitted.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. at Holy Ghost Chapel, 71 Linden Street, Attleboro, MA. There will be no funeral procession from the funeral home prior to the commencement of Mass.
Private burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Attleboro, MA at a later date.
