Joseph Nicholas Abreu, Jr.

Joseph Nicholas Abreu, Jr. 58, of Putnam, CT, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, MA. He was the beloved husband of Rita M. (Cassidy) Abreu.Born on December 4, 1958 in Pawtucket, RI, he was the son of the late Joseph Nicholas Abreu, Sr. and the late Doris A. (Dupere) Abreu.Joseph was employed for many years as a Production Worker for Bruin Plastics CO., Inc. in Glendale, RI, before retiring in 2012.A resident of Putnam, CT for the past ten years, he previously lived in Pawtucket, RI, where he was a member of the Church of St. Leo the Great. First and foremost in his life was his family, and he loved spending time with them, especially his cherished grandchildren. He enjoyed the outdoors; particularly camping, fishing, and canoeing. He was an avid fan of the Boston Bruins, and enjoyed the companionship of "Jasmine", his faithful canine.In addition to his wife, he is survived by his treasured children: Katie J. (Abreu) Corneau and her husband, Alex N. Corneau; Rebecca L. (Abreu) Gohlke and her husband, Thomas D. Gohlke; and step-daughter Renee Joseph and her two children; all of Pawtucket, RI. He leaves his grandchildren: Christian A. Corneau and Jarred M. Abreu. Joseph was the brother of Donna (Abreu) Santilli of Warwick, RI, and twins Laurie (Abreu) Kane of Attleboro and the late John Abreu. He is survived by several nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Joseph leaves his best friend, David Bishop of Putnam, CT.Friends and family are cordially invited to attend a Memorial Service at a date and time to later be announced.Burial services will be private.Joseph's family respectfully asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his memory to a local animal shelter of one's choice.
