Jon Russell Wood

October 7, 1940 — February 26, 2020

Jon Russell Wood, 79, of Branford, CT, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. His beloved wife Sheila A (Lojeck) Wood, whom he married on June 4, 1965 was by his side along with his children.
Jon was born on October 7, 1940 in Attleboro, MA. He was the eldest son of the late Herman William Wood and the late Barbara (Slavin) Wood.
Jon was raised and educated in North Attleboro, MA and was a graduate of North Attleboro High School, Class of 1958. He entered the United States Army where he proudly and honorably served our country. Jon received an Associate's Degree from Boston University as well as a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Bryant College. Jon worked for several years as a sales representative for Saint Regis Paper Company in Attleboro, MA. In 1972, he and Sheila moved to CT where he worked for Chatfield Paper Company in North Haven, CT and later became an owner of Consolidated Packaging Company before retiring.
He was a resident of Branford, CT for forty-eight years while also maintaining a cherished home in Harbour Town area of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
Jon loved to play golf with his Wife, Son, Son-in-law, and Grandsons. He was a member of the Clinton Country Club in Clinton, CT for many years and relished the times he spent with his "Wing Ding" Crew.
Jon will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and his devotion and love for his family especially his grandchildren; He was an epic grandfather. His other life hobbies and adventures included deer and duck hunting, fishing, gardening in the yard, eating Chinese Food, and entertaining his many friends. In his last few years, he spent a lot of time telling jokes, reading, traveling to Massachusetts, and watching many shows and movies.
In addition to his wife, Sheila, he leaves his loving children: Michele A. (Wood) O'Brien and her husband, James B. O'Brien, of East Sandwich, MA, Keryn E. (Wood) Wojciechowski and her husband, Edward J. Wojciechowski, of East Sandwich, MA and Timothy James Wood and his wife, Katherine A. (Donarum) Wood, of Franklin, MA.
He was the proud and adoring grandfather of Jon O'Brien of St. Augustine, FL; Jennifer (O'Brien) Pelkey and her husband, John Pelkey, of St. Petersburg, FL; Jared O'Brien of Dorchester, MA; Katelyn E. Wojciechowski, Madelyn C. Wojciechowski, Colin J. Wojciechowski, and Braden E. Wojciechowski, all of East Sandwich, MA and Luke M. Wood of Franklin, MA. Jon was the brother of Susan McKinnon of Allentown, PA; Jeffrey Wood of Sneek, Netherlands; James Wood of Sonoma, CA and Tracy Strother of County Mayo, Ireland. He has several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
A private committal shelter prayer service with military honors will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.  Inurnment will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery Columbarium.
