John Kean Mackill, 91, Attleboro, passed away on Monday, November 18, 2013 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. He was the husband of the late Phyllis Hall (Kellow) Mackill who died on February 21, 2010 and to whom he was married on April 25, 1951. Born in Glasgow, Scotland on March 17, 1922, he was a son of the late William and Madge (Smith) Mackill. John proudly served in the British Navy from 1941-1945 during World War II. He attended primary school at Shawsland Academy in Glasgow, Scotland and at college received an engineering degree. Mr. Mackill was employed as Vice President of the former L. G. Balfour Company in Attleboro for 34 years prior to his retirement. He was known for his love of golf and belonged to the Highland Country Club in Attleboro and a member of the L. G. Balfour Gold Dusters. Mr. Mackill was a member of the Masons for over 60 years where he was a Master Mason in the Blue Lodge and a Master Mason in Chapter Royal Arch Masons at Ezekiel Bates Lodge in Attleboro. He is survived by three children: Pamela Mackill and her husband, Jeffrey Worthington of Wayland; Patricia Mackill-Mansfield and her husband, Martin L. Mansfield of Attleboro; John Mackill of North Attleboro; five grandchildren: Lauren Bonneau, Pamela-Ann Mansfield, Colleen Mackill, Kathleen Mackill, Iain Mackill; two great-grandchildren: Raegan Bonneau, Collin Bonneau and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Mackill was predeceased by his brother Robert Smith Mackill, who died this past January in England. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Friday, November 22, 2013 from 4:00-7:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right, mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. A Closing prayer immediately following visitation, with Reverend Kelly Thibeault of the First Congregational Church in North Attleboro, will conclude the service at 6:45 PM. Burial will be private.
