John Edward "Jack" Galvin, Jr.

John Edward "Jack" Galvin, Jr., 87, of Attleboro, MA, passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2015, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of the late Marjorie (Buchanan) Galvin. Born July 4, 1928 in Attleboro, he was the son of the late John Galvin, Sr. and Louise (Hedberg) Galvin. Jack grew up in Attleboro and was a lifelong resident.  He was married to Marjorie Galvin for fifty-four years before she died in 2005. Jack leaves five daughters: Rhonda (Galvin) Montague of Boylston, MA; Lori (Galvin) Johnson of Oakdale, CT, Erika (Galvin) Ross of Attleboro, MA; and twin daughters: Kristen Galvin of Oakdale, CT and Karna (Galvin) Antonitis of North Attleboro, MA. He also leaves seven grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. He was the brother of Ruthie McGinley of West Warwick, RI, and the late Barbara Garrett, and Raymond Galvin of Attleboro, MA, and the late Joseph Robert Galvin. He also leaves his companion and friend Vivian Dugas of Attleboro, MA. Jack was an avid outdoorsman, spending much of his free time fishing and hunting.  He was a dedicated member of the following associations: Attleboro Elks­ Club, VFW Club Post # 144, The Wampanoag Rod and Gun Club, and the Angler's Club. He also enjoyed playing cards with his friends on Saturdays. He attended St. Stephen's Church, Centenary United Methodist Church in Attleboro, and Holy Ghost Church in Attleboro. His hobbies included volunteering, photography, country music, oldies music, dancing, hunting, fishing, canoeing, breeding beagles, gardening, canning & pickling, supplying his neighbors, friends and family with fresh vegetables, puttering around his yard, and spending time with family and friends. Jack graduated from trade school after attending Attleboro High School. He entered the military, honorably serving two years in the United States Army in the Quartermaster Corp and then Military Police.  He was stationed in Tokyo, Japan. Jack was a toolmaker by profession working for KF Bassler's for twenty years, and then Valentine Tool in Norton for twenty-two years, before retiring.  At Jack's request, there will be no visiting hours. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church (Sanford/N. Main Street) in Attleboro, MA, with Reverend Lehlohonolo Henrietta Montjane officiating. Burial will be privately held at a later date at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that only memorial donations be made in his name to the Attleboro Elks Club (Scholarship Fund), Centenary UMC in Attleboro, or Holy Ghost Church in Attleboro. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Steven A. Bensson, Sturdy Memorial Hospital; the compassionate staff at Life Care; Compassionate Care Hospice; and the wonderful home health aides from Home Instead.
