John Halko, 91, a long-time resident of Attleboro, passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at Epoch of Norton Assisted Living in Norton. Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on November 14, 1922; He was the son of the late Alexander and Tessie (Kuruta) Halko. Mr. Halko was a graduate of Attleboro High School and was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was employed by Sheldahl in East Providence, RI as a machine operator for over 30 years prior to his retirement in 1985. John was known for his love of bowling, golf and gardening. As a sports enthusiast, he enjoyed routing for the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. Mr. Halko was a member of the Pawtucket Elks, the DAV, and the Attleboro Football Hall of Fame. Mr. Halko leaves one sister: Stella Halko of Attleboro; a niece: Donna A. Madden and her husband Richard C. Madden, Jr. of Attleboro; one nephew: Leonard Halko of Attleboro and his late wife, Diane Halko; one great-niece and one great-nephew. He was also predeceased by four siblings: Jules Halko, Steven Halko, Michael Halko and Peter Halko. Private Visitation and Graveside Services will be held on Monday, December 30, 2013.
