John "Jack" Frederick Vance Jr., 89, of Attleboro, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Life Care Center of Attleboro in Attleboro, MA. He was the beloved husband of Jacqueline A. (Mossberg) Vance, to whom he was married on March 8, 1952.Born on September 7, 1928 in Attleboro, he was the son of the late John Frederick Vance Sr., and the late Mildred F. (Chesworth) Vance.A graduate of Attleboro High School, Class of 1946, he received a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Northeastern University. Jack worked for many years as the Chief Engineer of Transmission Design for New England Power Company before retiring in 1991. He proudly served our country as a Lieutenant in the commissioned corps of the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey, and was honorably discharged from service in 1955. He lived most of his life in Attleboro, MA.He was a quiet, generous man who would always lend a hand to others. Jack was a man of great faith and integrity, being very active with the Community of Christ Church in Attleboro, formerly the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. His family meant everything to him, and he loved spending time with them, especially summers at the Onset campground on Cape Cod, on his boat, and on the water. He volunteered his time for the Boys Scouts of America, and for twenty-five years as the Town Engineer for Norton. He was also a Professional Land Surveyor and Registered Engineer. An active man, he enjoyed working in his yard, particularly raking leaves, and enjoyed bowling in a league through the Attleboro Area Council of Churches. In addition to his wife, Jacqueline, he leaves his loving children: Charlene V. Sullivan and her husband, John D. Sullivan, of Hopedale, MA; Susan E. Murray of Attleboro, MA; and Mark A. Vance of Attleboro, MA. He was the dear father of the late John Michael Vance who died on May 12, 2009. He was the adoring grandfather of John M. Vance Jr., Crystal Vance, Rachel L. Vance, Mark A. Vance, Joshua A. Vance, Jamie C. Murray, and Kelly V. Murray, and the proud great-grandfather of many great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Mildred (Vance) King, and leaves two nieces and four nephews, having been predeceased by his niece, Karen S. Rei. Jack also leaves many dear friends.Friends and family are cordially invited to honor and remember Jack by gathering for a Visitation with Veteran's Honors on Thursday, August 2, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA, immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. at Dyer-Lake Funeral Home.Graveside services will follow the funeral service in North Purchase Cemetery, Attleboro.In lieu of flowers, donations made in Jack' s memory to a charity of one's choice would be appreciated.For additional information or to send the family a written expression of sympathy, please visit an online guest book at
