John James Ferrara, Sr., 101, of North Avenue, Attleboro, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2013 at Life Care Center of Attleboro. He was the husband of Jean T. (Daddesio) Ferrara to whom he was married on August 30, 1947. Born in Attleboro on May 7, 1912, he was a son of the late Antonio and Libera (Delitta) Ferrara. John proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was educated in Attleboro Public Schools, graduating from Attleboro High School, Class of 1930. John was always involved in organizing his high school reunions. Mr. Ferrara was employed at Shields Inc., Foster Metals and as a warehouse supervisor at Wells Benrus Corporation, all in Attleboro prior to his retirement at age 65. He was a member of St. Mark's Church in North Attleboro and a former member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Attleboro. Mr. Ferrara was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Sons of Italy, and American Legion all in Attleboro. He was also active with both the Attleboro and Plainville Senior Centers. He organized Senior trips to many parts of the country after he retired with "Timothy's Senior Sophisticates". John loved gardening, fishing and playing cards. He also enjoyed participating and teaching line dancing. In addition to his wife of 66 years, he is survived by three children: Camille R. Ferrara of Attleboro; Anthony "Tony" J. Ferrara and his wife, Sharon A. of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; John "Jack" J. Ferrara Jr. and his wife, Sharon E. of Seekonk; five grandchildren: Eric Ferrara and his wife Casey; Melanie Gasbarro and her husband Richard; Dr. Brian Ferrara, Steven Ferrara, Lauren Ferrara; three great-grandchildren: Shane and Avery Ferrara, Isabella Gasbarro; one sister: Elizabeth "Betty" Ferrara of Norton; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Ferrara was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters: Francis Ferrara, Carmino "Gus" Ferrara, Ann Delitta and Mary Flynn. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation with veteran's honors on Monday, December 2, 2013 from 4:00-7:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right, mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend the funeral with military honors on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at 8:30 AM from the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Mark's Church, Stanley Street, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro with Father Michael Giannitelli, Officiating. Burial to follow at St. John's Cemetery, West Street, Attleboro. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mr. Ferrara's name may be made to the American Heart Association at
