John Paul Clinton, 77, of Freeman Street in the Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, died on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at the Sunrise of Norwood where he had resided since May. He was the husband of the late Patricia L. (McGunigle) Clinton to whom he was married on September 12, 1959 in South Boston and who died on Sunday, February 19, 2012. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 4, 1935, he was a son of the late Charles F. and Margaret (Chase) Clinton. He was a 1952 graduate of Charlestown High School. Mr. Clinton proudly served with the United States Navy from his enlistment on September 18, 1952 until his honorable discharge on February 24, 1956. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal. He was raised in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston and resided there until entering the service and later moving to Attleboro Falls where he has resided since 1963. Mr. Clinton was employed as a leader lineman for the former Boston Edison Company for 38 years until his retirement in 1993. He was a communicant of St. Mark Roman Catholic Church in the Attleboro Falls section of North Attleboro. Mr. Clinton and his wife had enjoyed dancing of all kinds including square, country, line, round, Irish and Scottish. He was an ardent cribbage player and enjoyed time spent with friends at the Plainville Senior Center. A man of great musical abilities, Mr. Clinton taught himself to play many instruments merely by listening to music. Mr. Clinton played many instruments including the piano, banjo, harmonica and bag pipes, and was a member of an Irish marching band years ago. He leaves five children: John C. Clinton of Charlotte, North Carolina; Michael A. Clinton of North Attleboro; Lee Ann Spooner of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; Kathleen M. Wojcik of Bellingham and Jean M. Muniz of Gloucester; 13 grandchildren; a sister: Margaret Mansell of Attleboro and many nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends. He was the brother of the late Robert J. Clinton, Eileen R. Ennis, James F. Clinton, Neil C. Clinton, Charles F. Clinton, William Clinton and Richard J. Clinton. Thomas Frechette, Pastor, officiating. There will be no funeral cortege from the funeral home prior to the commencement of the Funeral Mass. Burial with bagpiper and military honors will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery and Arboretum, Mount Hope Street, North Attleboro. Following cemetery services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced.
