John W. Bowes, 65, of North Attleboro and The Villages, Florida passed away on Friday, May 17, 2013 surrounded by his family at the Cornerstone Hospice Home at The Villages following a short illness. He was the beloved husband of Mary "Penny" M. (Norton) Bowes to whom he was married on August 28, 1971. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 16, 1948, he was the son of the late John and Ellen (Moore) Bowes. He was raised in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston and was a graduate of English High School in Boston. Mr. Bowes earned his associate's degree from the Community College of Rhode Island. He was a resident of North Attleboro for the past 37 years having moved to the community from Boston. Mr. Bowes was employed as a technician for Verizon for 30 years prior to his retirement in June 2003. Since his retirement, he has treasured the time spent at his Florida home playing golf and enjoying the time with family and friends. He attended Good News Bible Chapel in Attleboro with his family. He will be lovingly remembered for his ability to "fix things" around his home. In addition to his beloved wife, he leaves his two loving children: Nicole Iantosca and her husband, Philip R. Iantosca, of Norwood and Jennifer A. Bowes and her husband, Matthew L. Wiffin, of Newton; two cherished grandchildren: Matthew J. Iantosca and Anna M. Iantosca both of Norwood; a sister: Marylou DelSignore and her husband, Joseph DelSignore, of Plainville; a niece: Betty Anderson of Plainville; a nephew: Joseph DelSignore of Plainville and several extended family members and dear friends. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Thursday, May 23, 2013 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. For those in need of local transportation to visitation simply call the funeral home at (508) 695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such gratis service. Children's room available during visitation. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the funeral service on Friday, May 24, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Good News Bible Chapel, 235 West Street, Attleboro with Steve DuPlessie, Elder and Teaching Pastor of the Good News Bible Chapel, Attleboro, officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery and Arboretum, Mount Hope Street, North Attleboro. Following cemetery services an invitation will be extended to join the family for continued fellowship and refreshments at Good News Bible Chapel. Memorial donations in Mr. Bowes' name may be made through the Dyer-Lake Charitable Foundation, Inc., a registered 501 (c) 3 organization, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, North Attleboro, MA 02760 to benefit the Cornerstone Hospice Home.
