John James Anthony, Sr.

John James Anthony, Sr., 73, of Evergreen Road, Attleboro, died on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the husband of Denise E. (McKinnon) Anthony to whom he was married on July 22, 1962. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on June 14, 1939, he was a son of the late Frederick S. and Dorothy (Cummings) Anthony. He moved to Foxboro at the age of three and continued to be raised and educated in the Foxboro community. Mr. Anthony was a graduate of Foxboro High School. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1962 - 1966 and an additional two years in the Army Reserves following his discharge from active duty. Following his military service, Mr. Anthony resided in Mansfield until moving to Attleboro in 1970. Mr. Anthony was employed by United Parcel Service as a truck driver and terminal employee from 1969 until his retirement in 1986. He was a communicant of the former St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church in Attleboro and more recently of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Seekonk. Mr. Anthony treasured the time spent working on cars in his garage, puttering and creating projects around his home and doing yard work. He will, however, be most remembered for the love he showered his family with having created lifelong memories for each to cherish. Mr. and Mrs. Anthony joyously celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last July amidst family and friends and had renewed their wedding vows in Hawaii for their 40th wedding anniversary. In addition to his wife of almost 51 years, he leaves three children: John James Anthony, Jr. of Uncasville, Connecticut; Deborah Jean Owens and her husband, Michael Ouellette, of Pawtucket, Rhode Island and Lisa Marie Anthony and her fiancé, John Costa, of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; five grandchildren; one great grandson; a sister: Nancy Waterman of Bar Mills, Maine; a brother: Frederick Anthony and his wife, Mary Anthony, of Yarmouth, Maine; several nieces, nephews, extended family members and members of his wife's family. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation with Veteran's Honors on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left),, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Those in need of a local ride to visitation may call the funeral home at (508) 695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such gratis transportation. Children's room available during visitation and while the funeral cortege is being organized. Family and friends are welcome to join the funeral cortege with Veteran's Honors on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 8:30 AM from the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left),, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Roman Catholic Church, Seekonk. Military honors will commence at the conclusion of church services. An invitation to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced will follow church services. Burial will be private.
