Joel Ellis Welsh, 57, of South Main Street, Attleboro, died on Friday, November 7, 2014, at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Hospice Center in Providence, Rhode Island. He was the husband of Elizabeth A. "Lisa" (Holbrook) Welsh. Born in Noblesville, Indiana on April 29, 1957, he was a son of the late Lealand O. Welsh, Sr., Esquire and the late Gloria R. (Peck) Welsh. Raised and educated in Wrentham, he was a 1976 graduate of King Phillip Regional High School. He resided in Wrentham until moving to Attleboro in 1989. Mr. Welsh was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps having enlisted on August 20, 1975, and was honorably discharged on October 15, 1976, with the rank of Private First Class. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and continued his service to his country as a member of the Marine Corps Reserve Forces following his active duty discharge. He was formerly employed by the Town of North Attleboro as a truck driver for the Department of Public Works - Sewer Division for ten years. Prior to that position, Mr. Welsh was employed for three years by the Boston Beer Company as a truck driver. A true outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery and was a member of the Wrentham Sportsmen's Club. In addition, he enjoyed walking, cooking and had a lifelong love for dogs. He will be remembered for his love for music and his musical abilities. In addition to his wife, he leaves two sons: Richard Lealand Welsh of Plymouth and Jeffrey Ellis Welsh of Attleboro; his siblings: Lealand Olaf Welsh, Jr. and his wife, Joyce E. (McKearney) Welsh of Wrentham; Phyllis A. "Penny" (Welsh) Hussey and her husband, George G. Hussey, Jr., of Bluff City, Tennessee and twins: Ellyn E. (Welsh) Paris and her husband, Marshall C. Paris, III, of Cumberland, Rhode Island and Howard E. Welsh and his wife, Lori (Plante) Welsh of Warwick, Rhode Island; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. A graveside service and blessing of the grave with Military Honors will immediately follow funeral services in Shepardville Cemetery, Plainville.
