Joann Oberbeck (née Jacobson) of Attleboro, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2024, at the age of 94. She was born in Roslindale, Massachusetts, on June 18, 1929, to the late Carl and Esther Jacobson. Joann was predeceased by her husband, George Oberbeck.
Joann was a strong, independent woman who dedicated her life to learning and literature. She was a graduate of Mount Holyoke College and pursued a career as a librarian at the Walpole Public Schools and Sharon Public Library. Her love for books was evident in her work and in her personal life.
In her free time, Joann enjoyed spending time with her family and friends as well as numerous volunteer activities. She was a loving mother to Steven Petrie (Janet), Ellen Petrie, Daniel Petrie (Karen), and Susan Donoghue (David). Joann adored her grandchildren Jacob (Kimber), Ian, Kelsey, Emily, Jillian, and Roman, and great granddaughter Gemma as well as her step-grandchildren Simone, Hannah, and Nick.
Joann will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was known for her quick wit, kindness, feistiness, and unwavering love for her family.
A memorial service to celebrate Joann's life will be held at Murray Unitarian Universalist Church, 505 North Main Street, Attleboro, MA on June 15, 2024, at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Attleboro Public Library or Doctors Without Borders in Joann's memory.
