Joan Lorie (Fay) Powers, 89, of North Attleboro, formerly of the family homestead on Bristol Ferry Road, Portsmouth, Rhode Island died on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at her residence surrounded by her loving and devoted family. She was the wife of the late Harold L. Powers. Born in Quincy, Massachusetts on April 23, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Clarice (Laterno) Fay. She followed in the family tradition and attended and graduated from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. Her family owned and operated the former Laterno's Drug Store in Fall River for decades. Mrs. Powers was raised on the family homestead on Bristol Ferry Road, Portsmouth. She was a North Attleboro resident for the past three years. She and her late sister, Claire C. Fay, were known throughout the Portsmouth community simply as the "Fay Sisters". She was a communicant of St. Mark Roman Catholic Church, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. She was employed as a Lab Technician in Alaska where she resided for many years and later upon returning to the United States mainland she settled in Washington State where she was employed at Sears Department Store in Everett, Washington for 15 years prior to her retirement. However, she will be most remembered for being a dedicated and devoted homemaker to her family. After her retirement, Mrs. Powers was a member of the East Everett Power Squadron and the Homemaker's Association in Maryville, Washington. She enjoyed camping, flying in the small plane owned by she and her husband and the treasured times spent residing in Maine, Alaska and Washington. She leaves four cherished children: Howard J. Powers of Everett, Washington; Harry R. Powers of Stanwood, Washington; Joy M. Williams and her husband, John E. Williams, III., of North Attleboro and James E Powers and his wife, Brenda Powers, of North Brookfield, two grandchildren: Anthony Powers of North Brookfield and Marie Powers of East Brookfield; a great grandchild: Dakarei Powers of North Brookfield. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Sunday, October 20, 2013 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM in the "Commonwealth Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the nationally historic "Colonel Obed Robinson Home", 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right, mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM on Monday, October 21, 2013 at St. Mark Roman Catholic, Stanley Street, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro with the Rev. Thomas Frechette, pastor, officiating. There will be no funeral cortege from the funeral home prior to the commencement of funeral Mass. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
