Joan Marie (Sheehan) O'Connor, 77, of Wheaton Drive, Attleboro, died on Friday, February 17, 2012 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Hospice Facility in Providence, Rhode Island where she had been for the previous 20 days. She was the wife of William Thomas O'Connor to whom she was married on November 3, 1956. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 7, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Francis and Marion (Young) Sheehan. She graduated from Cardinal Cushing High School in South Boston. Mrs. O'Connor was employed as a medical secretary at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston for ten years prior to her retirement and devoting herself to her family. A resident of Attleboro for the past twenty years, Mrs. O'Connor previously resided in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston. She treasured the time spent in Aruba with her beloved husband. In addition to her husband of 55 years, she leaves six children: Robert W. O'Connor of Lowell; Karen E. Mello of Norton; Janice M. Harty of Dorchester; Lauren N. Savage of Scituate; Denise R. Choukas of Dorchester and James O'Connor of Quincy; eleven grandchildren; a brother: Francis Sheehan of Braintree; several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Private services will be followed by burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Please omit flowers.
