Joan Theresa Babul

Joan Theresa (Acheson) Babul, 64, of Bluffton, South Carolina, formerly of North Attleboro, MA and Southport, North Carolina, peacefully passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island in Providence, RI. She was the loving and beloved wife of Michael J. Babul, to whom she was married on August 21, 1971. Born in Pawtucket, RI on January 31, 1951, she was a daughter of the late Paul Robert Acheson and Theresa (Bessette) Acheson. Joan was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Pawtucket, RI, Class of 1969, and a graduate of Rhode Island School of Nursing. She was employed for more than thirty years as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI. She will always be remembered for her love and enthusiasm of life and family, and delighted in playing cards with her card group, golf, pickle ball, the beach, music, and shopping. She was an avid reader, and an even more avid sports fan. She was an active member of the "Mother of Twins" organization. Above all, Joan found joy in her family and in all her family's activities. In January 2015, as part of the National ALS Awareness Day, and in recognition of her strength, dignity, courage and love, Joan was named an Honorary Captain by the Wagner University men's basketball team, where her son Michael is an assistant basketball coach. In addition to her husband, Michael, she is survived by her twin sons: Jonathan R. Babul, and his wife, Denna P. (Dobbins) Babul, of Atlanta, GA; and Michael G. Babul, and his wife, Colleen E. (Scott) Babul of Jersey City, NJ; her son Jeffrey P. Babul of Johnston, RI; her brother, John P. Acheson of Wakefield, RI; two cherished grandchildren: Sophia Bleu Babul and Weston Grey Babul; her extended family, and many dear friends. She was the sister of the late Mary F. Acheson. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend Visitation on Sunday, August 23, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right, mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend Joan's Funeral on Monday, August 24, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. from the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Park Street, North Attleboro. Burial will be private at a late date at Notre Dame Cemetery in Pawtucket, RI. Children's room is available during visitation and funeral gathering.
