Jean E. (Swanson) Gifford

December 23, 1930 — October 17, 2022

Jean E. (Swanson) Hogberg Gifford, 91, of Attleboro, MA, formerly of Norton, MA, a former longtime Attleboro resident, and a native of Cranston, RI, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, October 17, 2022, at the Life Care Center of Attleboro, where she had been a resident for almost two years.  She was the wife of the late Frederick "Fred" Barney Gifford to whom she was was married on June 28, 1980, and who died on March 1, 2019, and the late John Robert Hogberg, to whom she was married on June 7, 1952, and who died on February 1, 1973.
Born in Cranston, RI on December 23, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Everett Swanson and the late Dorothy Naomi (Johnson) Swanson.  Raised and educated in Cranston, Jean was a graduate of the former Cranston High School and the Samuels Dental Clinic in Providence, RI where she earned her dental assistant certification.  She was employed as a dental assistant for numerous dental practices in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
A longtime member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Attleboro, she sang in the choir, participated in the ladies' Bible study, and taught Sunday school, amongst many other activities in the church.
Jean and Fred enjoyed being longtime members of the East Greenwich Yacht Club, the Squantum Association, and the Highland Country Club.
Jean's love of art was expressed through her painting, sewing, and cake decorating, but her primary love was always her cherished family.
She leaves behind her children, Robin L (Hogberg) Anderson and her husband, Robert H Anderson of Roseville, CA; John E Hogberg and his wife Ronda Hogberg, of Riverside, RI; her step-children, Cynthia C (Gifford) Currie of Bedford, NH; and Deborah Lynn (Gifford) Pansen and her husband, Dave Pansen, of Ashville, NC;  her grandchildren, Kirsten Sands, Matthew Anderson, Carisa Schultheis, Axel Hogberg, Nella Hogberg, Jamie Currie, Kevin Currie, Eric Pansen, and Dana Pansen; and 11 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her sister, Beverly (Swanson) Swanson.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Evangelical Covenant Church, 841 North Main Street, Attleboro, MA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jean Gifford's name may be made to the Memorial Gifts Fund of the Evangelical Church.
