Jay G Calista

December 10, 1964 — March 3, 2015

Jay G. Calista of Attleboro, formerly of Cumberland, RI and North Attleboro, MA, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2015 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center of Rhode Island after a brief battle with ESRD, through which he demonstrated the kind of courage, strength, bravery and dignity so rarely seen nowadays. He was the beloved husband of Sue M. Rodrigues-Calista for 24 years. He is survived by two children, Krystal R. Calista and Austin G. Calista both of Attleboro, MA. He was the son of the late James Q. Calista, former Attleboro school administrator, and is survived by his mother: Doris (Dion) Calista of Las Cruces, New Mexico; a brother: James Calista of Jamieson, Pennsylvania; and a sister: Dr. Carol Calista, D.V.M., of Las Cruces, New Mexico. He was considered to be the fun and crazy uncle to his nieces and nephews. Jay enjoyed taking day trips, particular to Cape Cod. Jay enjoyed boating, he was an avid fisherman and he also loved riding his Yamaha Road Star. Jay volunteered his time with the Pawtucket Youth Special Hockey and Habitat for Humanity. In his usual quiet and generous way he brought support to others without calling attention to himself. He will forever be remembered for his sense of humor, gracious hospitality, and warm and generous ways. Jay was well loved and will be missed by many. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Monday, March 9, 2015 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right, mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. A Funeral Service will immediately follow visitation on Monday, March 9, 2015 at 7:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" with the Rev. Randal Ackland, Pastor of the South Attleboro Assembly of God, officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date in St. John's Orthodox Church Cemetery, Cumberland, Rhode Island.
