Janice Buchanan

Janice May (Flannery) Buchanan, 76, of Attleboro, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, MA. She was the beloved wife of the late William Ernest Buchanan.Born on January 5 1941 in South Boston, MA, she was the daughter of the late William and Pauline V. (O'Shea) Flannery.A graduate of Nazareth High School, Class of 1958, she then attended Cosmetology School. Janice worked for many years as a Caregiver for various organizations until retiring in 2000.A resident of Attleboro for the past twenty years, she previously lived in Plainville, MA.A warm and outgoing woman, she loved the ocean, watching old movies, animals of most every kind, especially her bird, "Chatter", going out to dinner with friends, the color purple, and visits to Castle Island and particularly M. Street Beach in South Boston. More than anything, though, Janice simply loved being with her treasured family.She was the loving mother of the late William G. Buchanan; Michael R. Buchanan of Sturgis, SD; Scott A. Buchanan and his wife, Donna M. (Ploof) Buchanan, of Mansfield, MA; Denise M. (Buchanan) Sawicki and her husband, Edward J. Sawicki, of North Attleboro, MA; the late Tara L. Buchanan and her longtime companion, Mateo Zuniga, of TN, and the late Janice L. Buchanan of Taunton, MA. She was the proud grandmother of twelve grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Janice was the sister of Virginia Donovan and her husband, Francis Donovan, of South Boston, MA; Michael Flannery and his wife, Cheryl Flannery, of Syracuse, NY: Celeste Cardella of Mansfield, MA; Bill Flannery and his wife, Lisa Flannery, of New Ipswich, MA; David Flannery and his wife, Debby Flannery, of Brookline, MA; and Marty Flannery and his wife, Michelle Flannery, of Hudson, NH. She leaves several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.Family and friends are invited to honor and remember Janice by gathering for a Visitation on Thursday, October 12, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA, immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 6:00 p.m. at Dyer-Lake Funeral Home.
