James "Jim" Edward Thompson, 60, of North Attleboro, passed away at his home on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 after a courageous fight with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Ruth (Burke) Thompson, to whom he was married on June 6, 1981.Born on December 17, 1955 in Norwood, MA, he was the son of the late Francis Edward Thompson and the late Sophia (Tulis) Thompson.A resident of North Attleboro for the past twenty-nine years, Jim worked for thirty years in the IT Department at the Newbury Corporation/Norfolk & Dedham Group in Dedham, MA, before retiring this year. He previously lived in Norwood, MA.He enjoyed many of life's simpler pleasures: fishing on Cape Cod and visits to Sandy Neck Beach there; long walks with his faithful companion, "Riley", especially in the state forest; cooking, baking, and sipping a good scotch. He had a love for all animals and enjoyed collecting wolf related memorabilia. As a younger man, he enjoyed sailing. Jim truly valued the time he would spend with his beloved family, and will be sorely missed.In addition to his wife, Ruth, he is survived by his cherished son, Adam J. Thompson of North Attleboro, MA. He was the brother of the late Nancy (Thompson) Bittel and her husband, Raymond Bittel, of TX; Mary Jane (Thompson) McDermott and her husband, Gerard McDermott, of Norwood, MA; and Jeanne Thompson of Norwood, MA.
