James Richard Mello

James Richard Mello, 73, of North Attleboro, MA, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI. He was the loving and beloved husband of Corliss M. (Lachance) Mello.Born on October 1, 1943 in Rehoboth, MA, he was the son of the late Louis Mello and the late Margaret (Silva) Mello.James was a graduate of Franklin High School and honorably served our country as a member of the United States Air Force. He proudly worked as a Truck Driver for Garelick Farms, where he genuinely enjoyed his work for thirty-six years before retiring. He was a longtime resident of North Attleboro, having previously resided in Attleboro, MA, and was a member of Sacred Heart Church in North Attleboro. The center of James' life was unquestionably his family. He was a skillful builder, woodworker, and carver who created wonderful objects, including bird carvings and his own Jenga game set. He frequently could be found simply tinkering around the house. James was a patient man with a heart of gold who enjoyed teaching others, particularly children. He delighted in family cookouts, camping and tenting, travels across the country, and playing cards.In addition to his wife, James is survived by his cherished children: Lori L. (Mello) Joubert of Cumberland, RI, whose late husband, Glenn M. Joubert passed away three weeks ago; and Michael D. Mello of North Attleboro, MA. He was the treasured grandfather of Shayna L. Joubert and her fiancée, Nicholas R. Barradale; Caitlin J. (Mello) Whelihan and her husband, Steven A. Whelihan, Jr.; Michael G. Joubert; Gregory J. Joubert; and Makayla A. Mello. He was excitedly looking forward to the birth of his first great-grandchild. He was the brother of Marjorie A. Mercure and her late husband, George A. Mercure, of North Attleboro, MA; Frank L. Mello and his wife, Susan Mello, of Apopka, FL; Louis Mello and his wife, Caren Mello, of Franklin, MA; and Linda M. Field and her husband, Stephen "Sam" Field, of Wrentham, MA. He leaves numerous nieces and nephews and good friends.James was the brother of the late Ruth M. Merrill, the late Joyce L. Rattie; and the late Ronald J. Mello.Friends and family are cordially invited to attend a Visitation on Friday, December 9, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, ¾ mile on the left) Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA.Children's room is available during visitation.Those in need of a local ride to the visitation may call the funeral home at (508) 695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such complimentary transportation.
