James William MacDonald, Jr., Esquire, 35, of East Providence, Rhode Island and a native of Attleboro; died following a brief illness at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island on the evening of Thursday, April 4, 2013. He was the husband of Stephanie (Desmarais) MacDonald to whom he was married in 2002. Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts on June 4, 1977, he was the son of James William MacDonald, Sr. of Attleboro and Kathleen (Croft) MacDonald in Florida. He was a 1995 graduate of Attleboro High School and later attended Michigan State University prior to earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with a minor in economics, magna cum laude, in 1999 from the University of Massachusetts - Dartmouth where he was a member of the Pi Sigma Alpha National Honor Society and served as member and President of the Political Science Association. Mr. MacDonald earned his Jurist Doctorate from Roger Williams School of Law in Bristol, Rhode Island in June 2002 having graduated cum laude and where he served as President of the Rhode Island Chapter of the Federalist Society. He was recognized for excellence in Administrative Law and Securities Regulation, a notable accomplishment only bestowed to the top twenty-percent of the graduating class. Esquire MacDonald was admitted to practice law and held memberships with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, State of Rhode Island and federal courts. He held professional associations with the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Rhode Island Bar Association and the Turnaround Management Association. From May 2000 - March 2006, Mr. MacDonald was employed by the Law Office of Joseph Solomon in Warwick, Rhode Island where he was a law clerk responsible for assisting attorneys in all areas of practice including preparation of bankruptcy filings, researching and drafting pleadings, motions, memorandums of law, and briefs from May 2000 - November 2002. From November 2002 - March 2006, Attorney MacDonald continued employment with the Law Office of Joseph Solomon in Warwick, Rhode Island as Associate, Bankruptcy and Commercial Litigation. Since March 2006, Esquire MacDonald was employed by the Bank of America in Providence, Rhode Island as the Assistant Vice President of Vendor/Investor Relations. As a senior loan officer on over 70 defaulted commercial loan relationships, he was responsible for performing due diligence, determining bid amounts and working with outside counsel to foreclose on commercial and residential real estate throughout the country. Esquire MacDonald was also responsible for negotiating, structuring and drafting loan modifications and forbearance agreements, controlling the approval process, and monitoring asset quality. He led a process improvement committee consisting of associates throughout the Northeast and served as a liaison to OREO and Credit Fulfillment groups nationwide, taught commercial loan documentation and bankruptcy classes to newly hired workout officers and document administrators. Mr. MacDonald was a longtime communicant of the former St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church in the Dodgeville neighborhood of the City of Attleboro. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he was a star baseball player at Attleboro High School and a fan of all of the Boston sports teams. In addition to his wife and parents, he leaves a sister: Jaclyn M. Adams in Massachusetts; aunts and uncles including: Carol A. MacDonald of Attleboro; Ernest J. MacDonald, Jr. of Attleboro; Roberta Mirabile of South Attleboro; Susan Eaton of Berkley; Raini Croft of Quincy and Kenneth Croft, Jr. of Cary, North Carolina; his maternal grandparents: Kenneth and Pauline Croft of Fall River and Florida and several cousins, extended family members, friends and colleagues. He was the paternal grandson of the late Ernest J. MacDonald, Sr. and Rose (Bevilaqua) MacDonald. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Thursday, April 11, 2013 from 9:00 - 10:45 AM in the "Memorial Chapel" of Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. There will be no visitation the prior evening. Thomas Rita, Pastor of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, Seekonk, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.
