James W.
Havens
September 6, 1940 – March 9, 2026
James Woodrow Havens (Jim), 85, of East Bridgewater, passed away peacefully on March 9,2026.
Born in Rome, New York, on September 6, 1940, he was the son of the late James K. Havens and Mary (Clarke) Havens.
Jim is survived by his wife, Rena; his sister, Mary; his sons, James, and Heath; and several granddaughters and great-granddaughters.
Jim was an avid radio operator for most of his life, a skill he first put to use during his service in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964 aboard the nuclear submarine SSN-575 Seawolf. After his honorable discharge, Jim attended college and began his career as a math teacher in Quincy, Massachusetts.
In the early 1980s, he taught himself computer systems, launching a long and successful career in information technology. Over the following decades, he held various roles in the field, including working at Hanscom Air Force Base on a military contract with TRW.
In his later years, Jim devoted himself to his family and to his walk in the Christian faith. While in retirement, he continued to give back as a teacher at Hope Christian School. Throughout his life-and right up until his passing-he remained deeply passionate about his life-long hobby as a ham radio operator.
In his twilight years, Jim often spoke of Christ's sacrifice and the promise of salvation. He believed deeply that through faith and acceptance of this truth, one can find lasting joy, gratitude, and peace-both in this life and in the Kingdom to come.
Services for James will be held privately at a later date.
