James Henry Courtney

James H. Courtney, known as Leonard "Lenny" Courtney in earlier years, 82, of North Attleboro, MA passed away unexpectedly on December 1, 2021, at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA following surgery. He was the loved husband of Janet L. (Parr) Courtney to whom he was married on February 3, 1961.
Born in Cambridge, MA on July 10, 1939, he was a son of the late James Courtney and the late Jeannette (Dubnowski) Courtney.  He was lovingly raised by his maternal grandmother, the late Katherine "Bunnie" Dubnowski and his aunt, the late Helen Dubnowski.
He was a graduate of Somerville High School and served his country honorably with the United States Army from June 20, 1958 - June 12, 1961.
Mr. Courtney was employed as a shipper for Arthur Blank and Company for many years prior to his retirement in 2005.
A resident of the North Attleboro community since 2010, he previously resided in Foxboro, MA from 1966 - 2010.  While living in Foxboro, he volunteered his time as a youth hockey coach.
Both he and his wife had a love for travel having been to China, Australia, South America, and Europe to name only a few.  They also enjoyed time with family in Aruba and taking cruises, the last cruise to the Panama Canal.
He treasured the time spent playing cards and time spent with his beloved canine companion, Bella.
In addition to his wife, he leaves two children: Stephen Courtney and his wife, Lisa (O'Neil) Courtney, of North Attleboro, MA and Cheryl Moran and her fiancé, Mark Gehri, of Brunswick, Ohio; five grandchildren: Brian Courtney and his wife, Hailey Courtney, of Attleboro, MA; Sean Courtney and his wife, Allison Courtney, of Cranston, RI; Brendan Courtney and his fiancée, Meaghan Bordeleau, of Plainville, MA; Kyle Moran of Salt Lake City, UT and Courtney Moran of Lakewood, Ohio.  He was the brother of the late Steven Courtney.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a Memorial Visitation with Veteran's Honors on Friday, December 10, 2021, from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA. A Celebration of Life Service will commence at 2:00 p.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the funeral home.
Private burial with military honors will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA on Monday, December 13, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Courtney's name may be made to the charity of one's choice.
