James Michael Champagne, 61, of Plainville, MA passed away in the company of his loving family on October 10, 2025, at AccentCare Hospice & Palliative Care - Greater Boston in Milton, MA. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth C. (Papagni) Champagne to whom she was married on September 27, 2015.
Born in Cambridge, MA on November 4, 1963, he was a son of the late Joseph Paul Champagne, Sr. and the late Margaret Mary (Goodwin) Champagne and was the stepson of the late Barbara (VonDohlen) Champagne.
He was a 1982 graduate of the North Cambridge Catholic High School.
Mr. Champagne was employed by the United States Postal Service as a processing clerk at the general mail facility in Boston, MA from July 1, 1989, until his retirement on November 30, 2024, due to illness.
He had also worked as a clerk in the produce department of Stop & Shop in Dedham, MA for more than 39 years until May 10, 2024.
Mr. Champagne was a communicant of St. Martha Parish in Plainville, MA.
As an ardent hockey fan, he was a member and served as Captain for 14 years of the Northwest Bandits hockey team, made up of fellow postal workers, and played annually in Canada.
He was also a golf enthusiast and had an artistic talent having particularly liked to draw.
James treasured the times spent with family and friends in the mountains of New Hampshire.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his daughter: Kayla Q. Champagne of Bellingham, MA; his brother: Jeff S. Champagne and his girlfriend, Tracy L. Conway, of Weare, New Hampshire; stepsiblings: Richard J. Donahe of Manchester, NH; Anne M, Donahe-Kagen and her husband, Howard Kagen, of Manchester, NH and Michael P. Donahe and his girlfriend, Theresa Paulette, of Tallahassee, Florida; sisters-in-law: Marie McBride and her husband, Robert McBride, of Randolph, MA and Rose Brady and her husband, Richard Brady, of Bellingham, MA; many nieces and nephews, nine grand nieces and nephews and among his very close friends are Brian Eger of Billerica, MA and Donald Phinney of Holbrook, MA, extended family and additional dear friends.
He was the brother of the late Joseph P. Champagne Jr. who died on August 8, 2023.
Family and friends are warmly welcome to attend Visitation on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA.
The funeral cortege will begin on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 9:15 am from the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at St. Martha Parish, South Street, Plainville.
Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery in the Roslindale neighborhood of Boston, MA.
Following cemetery services and invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced.
