James "Jim" Barnes, 47, of Attleboro, MA, passed away on May 12, 2026.
Born on January 14, 1979, in Boston, MA, Jim was the beloved son of John J. Barnes Sr. and the late Kathleen Barnes (Brown). He grew up in West Roxbury and attended West Roxbury High School, where he formed lifelong friendships and built the foundation of the hardworking, loyal man he would become.
Jim is survived by his loving wife and partner of ten years, Jessica Lyn, and his children Nathan, Jason, the late great Justin, Hannah, Vix, Olivia, Colben, Kayden, Mason, Cara, and Lily who were the center of his world. He is also survived by his older brother John Jr. and his wife Nikki of Palm Coast, FL; and his younger brother Mark; He leaves behind his cherished nieces Alyssa, Mackenzie, Grace, Sophia, and Laila, all of whom adored their Uncle Jim. Family was Jim's world, and he poured himself into every moment with them.
To his BACA family, he was "Dustpan." To the crew at American Firearms School, he was the steady, knowledgeable Range Manager they could always count on. Prior to that, he spent many years in the towing industry, A profession that reflected his natural instinct to help others during their most difficult moments. Working for multiple companies throughout his career, with his final towing position held at Achin's.
Some knew him as "Coach," from the seasons he spent on the football field and the hours he volunteered at the Eagles Nest concession stand. No matter the setting, Jim left his mark. He was a man rooted in service, community, and quiet strength.
He felt most alive with his wife and kids, but found his peace on his bike, out in the fresh air, or with a project spread across the workbench. Jim had a gift for fixing anything; cars, engines, broken parts, and sometimes even broken days. He was the steady hand, the calm voice, the one who could walk into chaos and somehow make everything feel manageable again.
His generosity, loyalty, and quiet strength defined him far more than any job title ever could. If something needed doing, he was already halfway through it before anyone else even realized there was a problem. And if someone needed help, he didn't hesitate; he showed up, heart wide open, usually with a joke or a one‑liner that made the whole situation feel lighter. It was part of what made him unforgettable.
Jim gave freely, loved deeply, and carried a loyalty that made people feel safe just by being near him, a presence that will be missed in ways words can't fully capture.
