Jack Alfred Lane, 85 Proud Veteran and Retired TI Employee Jack Alfred Lane, 85, of Prospect Avenue, Attleboro, died on Monday, January 3, 2011 at the Golden Living Center ? Attleboro where he had been a resident since August 17, 2010. He was the beloved husband of Shirley A. (Governo) Lane to whom he was married July 31, 1955. Born in Taunton, Massachusetts on November 20, 1925, he was a son of the late George and Jessie (Irving) Lane. Mr. Lane was educated in Taunton prior to moving to Norton where he continued his education and was a 1943 graduate of Norton High School. Mr. Lane was a proud veteran of the United States Navy having served from his enlistment on November 19, 1943 until his honorable discharge in May 1946. He served aboard the USS Bull and in recent years enjoyed many reunions with his former shipmates. Mr. Lane was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, the American Theatre Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal ? 3 Stars, the European, African, Middle Eastern Theatre Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal. He was employed by Texas Instruments in Attleboro for almost 40 years prior to his retirement in 1987 as a group leader. Mr. Lane resided in Attleboro since 1961 having previously resided in Norton and Taunton. Always a patriotic man and proud of his service to his country, he was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars ? Post 115, Attleboro. As an ardent golfer, he was a member of numerous local golf leagues. He treasured the time spent fresh and saltwater fishing, gardening, was a dedicated football fan and, in earlier years, enjoyed the times spent camping with his family in Maine, New Hampshire and at Horseneck Beach in Westport. In addition to his wife, he leaves five children: Bradford S. Lane of Rehoboth; Jeffrey A. Lane of Norton; Laurie A. Mattos of Norton; Richard B. Lane of Attleboro and Robert T. Lane of Seekonk; 7 grandchildren; a brother: Harry Lane in Maine and several extended family members. He was the brother of the late Virginia ?Ginny? Greene, Arthur Lane and George Lane. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation with Veteran?s Honors on Thursday, January 6, 2011 from 5:00 ? 8:00 PM in the ?Memorial Chapel? of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home ? the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Those in need of a ride to visitation may simply call (508) 695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such gratis local transportation. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend the funeral service with Veteran?s Honors on Friday, January 7, 2011 at 10:00 AM in the ?Memorial Chapel? of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home ? the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Burial with military honors will follow in Oak Knoll Cemetery, Rehoboth. Following cemetery services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced. Children?s room available during visitation and the funeral service.
