Irene D. (Rushlow) Bartley, 80, of Norton, MA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on December 7, 2023, at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, Rhode Island. She was the wife of the late John "Jack" James Bartley, Jr. who died on September 29, 2022, to whom she had been married for 58 years.
Born in Holyoke, MA on May 29, 1943, she was a daughter of the late David A. Rushlow and the late Rena M. Rushlow. She was raised in Attleboro, MA and moved to Norton after she and Jack were married on May 23, 1964. She was a devout communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Norton, MA.
Irene was a beautiful woman both inside and out. She exuded warmth, compassion and kindness to everyone she met. She loved to laugh and brought light to everyone around her. Irene appreciated the small moments and simple pleasures in life, whether it be watching her grandchildren dig in the sand pile on the farm or observing the many deer on the property. A loving wife, Irene supported Jack in his many entrepreneurial pursuits, including owning and operating a cranberry bog in Norton. Never shy about rolling up her sleeves, she would be out in the blazing sun, harvesting cranberries, taking care of family and lending moral support to whomever needed it. She was the epitome of patience, self-sacrifice and selflessness when it came to the care of her family. Irene enjoyed trips to the Cape and Ocean Point, Maine with Jack, her daughter and her family. These were times filled with laughter and joy. Some of the happiest times of her life. In retirement, Irene and Jack would go on lunch dates every Friday and explore the coastal towns in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. But mostly, they spent time with each other, watching the boats come and go in the many picturesque harbors.
She leaves her three daughters: Lynda Bartley of Norton, MA; Jeanne Karcis of Norton, MA and Diane Taylor and her husband, Rick Taylor, of Rehoboth, MA; her four grandchildren: Olivia Karcis, Paul Karcis, William Taylor and Luke Taylor.
Visitation is respectfully omitted.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, One Power Street, Norton, MA.
There will be no funeral cortege from the funeral home prior to the commencement of Mass.
